The Smart, Skilled and Hired Youth Employment Program is a new service delivered by CHESS that helps young people and young people connect with training, mentoring and work experience so they can become work ready and kick start a fulfilling career.

Since launching this service in September we’ve had several successes within our local community! We’d like to introduce you to Taylor, a Clarence Valley local who we recently connected with.

How Smart, Skilled & Hired supported Taylor towards employment

Taylor connected with our Smart, Skilled & Hired (SSH) team in late September. She was ineligible for assistance through Jobactive, and had struggled to gain employment through varying factors including a low employment rates within her local area and previous health conditions.

She met with the SSH Youth Coach who assisted her with refreshing her resume as well as providing assistance with cover letters and job applications. We also supported and encouraged Taylor to continue striving to achieve her goals, building confidence in herself and her own abilities.

SSH assisted Taylor in undertaking a Barista course to enhance her employment opportunities and as she had extensive experience in Hospitality, this was certainly a benefit.

To the Future!

Less than 3 weeks after connecting with CHESS, Taylor commenced employment at a new café within her local town! We provided her with work clothing, footwear and anything she needed to get her started in her new job – well done Taylor!

“Smart, Skilled and Hired have been so supportive and encouraging. They were able to identify areas of advancement and how to achieve my goals. Thank you SSH, I really appreciate all your help.” – Taylor Roberts

Guidance and support form organisations like CHESS can make a real difference in the lives of young people like Taylor. If you’re a young jobseeker under 25 or a recent school leaver looking for work our Smart, Skilled and Hired staff want to speak with you!
