CHESS’ informal NDIS Planning Café’s are a safe space where locals across the Mid North Coast and Clarence Valley can come in for a coffee and a chat, and get more information about the upcoming NDIS rollout and what it means for them.

We’ve found that there is a lot of confusion or lack of awareness of the NDIS within our local communities. Because of this, CHESS developed the idea of a cafe style meeting place where people could come and feel comfortable talking about their personal experiences.

The launch of the NDIS Café initiative was held in sunny Nambucca Heads at the local Traditionally Grounded café. This venue was set up by the local Land Council to help First Nation locals living with disabilities. It has special significance for CHESS, as we helped support this grassroots initiative from conception.

Our first NDIS café was a great success, with over 20 people in attendance and strong representation from the First Nation community. Everyone had the opportunity to have a scone and a cuppa whilst CHESS representatives moved through the crowd, sitting with different groups and answering questions and concerns about the NDIS.

Everyone went away with an info pack and prep checklist to start them thinking about what supports they will need and prepare for their first meeting with the NDIA.

There will be several more NDIS Planning Café’s coming to a local area near you! For a full list of events, dates and times visit our site HERE.

All are welcome and no reservation is required!
